Why Did I Start a Career in Clinical UX?

Like most people, I never dreamed of starting a career in Clinical UX as a child. I actually wanted to be an artist. I’m pretty good at drawing portraits, but the most successful artists tend to get famous after their death, which didn’t seem very appealing to me. So why start a career in Clinical UX?
Well, ultimately I have been driven by the desire to improve the lives of others, something I started doing by being trained at Bart’s & the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. Before I joined the medical school, I deliberated between going into IT and becoming a doctor. My IT teachers said there wouldn’t be any IT jobs (what a terrible prediction that was back in the early 2000s), so I chose medicine instead. Looking back, it was a wise decision.
However, after a couple of years working as a doctor, I decided I needed a job where I could be creative on a day to day basis. So in 2014 I took a leap and started my career in digital health as a Clinical Analyst at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
